A delightful three-quarter length pastel portrait, signed 'L. Bonnefoy' and dated 1849 to the lower right. It is not evident whether L. Bonnefoy is the artist or sitter.
The portrait itself is wonderfully done, full of character and the use of white highlights to the face and cravat in particular give the work a great verve. Housed in a later glazed rosewood frame.
